National Activity Awards 2026 Winner Clive Lucas at Lakeview Grange

Selsey resident, Clive Lucas has won a national award in recognition of the contribution he makes as a volunteer at Lakeview Grange Care Home on Whyke Road, Chichester. Clive was crowned winner of the Everyday Impact Award at a glittering awards ceremony in Liverpool, organised by the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA).

The award, open to all care homes nationwide, celebrates an individual who enhances the everyday experiences of residents and, through small but meaningful actions, builds trust, promotes wellbeing and creates moments of connection that truly matter.

Clive, a retired NHS Social Worker, began volunteering two years ago. He had visited the care home previously and wanted to get involved in helping out with activities for the residents. He started out by assisting with the home’s ‘Falls Prevention’ classes, adding reassurance and support, and has since helped out as a minibus driver for resident outings, at the Summer Fete and Christmas activities. He set up and runs Lakeview Grange’s Cinema Club, selecting films with residents and then watching and discussing them together, and he has recently started to take some male residents to a local Men’s Dementia Group. He always goes above and beyond, and has even taken part in a play at Lakeview Grange to entertain residents.

Shaun Matthews, General Manager at Lakeview Grange commented, “We are thrilled that Clive has been recognised nationally for selflessly giving up his time to help our residents. His friendly nature, charm, positivity and warmth bring such a lot of pleasure to residents, their families, our team, and local professionals. We’ve noticed that our male residents, in particular, really enjoy having the opportunity for ‘blokey banter’ with him, about cars, bikes and engines etc – but he is great at connecting with everyone. He is always willing and enthusiastic, and although he was a very experienced social worker, he still embraces our training opportunities and ongoing learning. He thoroughly deserves this award.”

Commenting on his win, Clive Lucas said, “I was truly grateful to Mary Oliver, Wellbeing and Lifestyle Co-ordinator at Lakeview Grange, for nominating me and, I was ecstatic to win as I’ve never won an award before! I love volunteering at Lakeview Grange – in fact, I think I enjoy volunteering as much as the team and residents enjoy me being there. It has been lovely sharing skills and learning from the residents’ experiences. I look forward to more of this in the future.”
