National Dementia Care Accreditation scheme rolled out in all Cinnamon care homes
Choosing care for a loved one living with dementia is deeply personal. At Cinnamon Care Collection, we believe families deserve complete reassurance that their loved one is supported with understanding, dignity and genuine compassion.
As part of our ongoing commitment to enhancing quality of life and wellbeing, Cinnamon is proud to be the first large luxury care group in the UK to undertake a pilot national dementia accreditation across all its homes. This rigorous scheme recognises care providers who go above and beyond to deliver exceptional, person‑centred dementia care – grounded in expertise, empathy and consistency.
All Cinnamon care homes are among the first in the UK to take part in the National Dementia Care Accreditation Scheme (NaDCAS), with many already well progressed on their journey to full accreditation. It is a meaningful step that reflects our dedication to continually raising standards and providing families with confidence at every stage.
NADCAS FRAMEWORK
The NaDCAS framework focuses on nine key assessments which are designed to ensure consistent good practice in supporting people living with dementia.
Knowledge and understanding of dementia care
Care teams should maintain current knowledge of dementia best practices and effectively translate this understanding into everyday care.
Information about the person
Care for people living with dementia should reflect each individual’s life story, personal choices, and preferences, supporting truly person-focused care.
Person-centred participation and engagement
Daily interactions should be designed to promote meaningful engagement, wellbeing, community, and social connection.
The enabling environment
Dementia-friendly environments in care homes should be designed to promote well-being, independence, and daily living.
The homely environment
Care home environments should feel welcoming and familiar, cultivate social warmth and a strong sense of belonging.
Light, sound, smell, and touch for wellbeing
A careful consideration of sensory stimulus must be undertaken in the design and planning of dementia-friendly environments; for comfort, to encourage engagement, minimise stress and distress for people in the later stages of dementia.
Team induction, training, and nurture
Care teams must receive continuous training and development, as well as mentorship for their own emotional wellbeing.
Approach and emotional connection
Care teams to build trusting relationships with residents on solid foundations of empathy, validation and support focusing on emotional intelligence and a family-like culture.
Vision, culture, and leadership
Leadership teams should ensure a positive culture of care is sustained and remains consistent in all interactions.
What began as a social enterprise led by an experienced group of occupational therapists, psychiatric nurses, dementia researchers and senior care home managers; NaDCAS is now a leading accreditor in the care sector that aims to support care providers in transforming the level of dementia care they offer to residents and their families. Its work is underpinned by industry expertise with over 50 years of experience in dementia care, working alongside professionals, regulatory bodies and universities.
